This month I made a simple flower headband and a card to share with you using ribbon from the July Ribbon Club Assortment.
First up I have a headband tutorial. We have been working with some awesome products from Scor-Pal in July and I’ve found another great use for my Scor-Tape. If you are one of those super coordinated ladies who can operate a hot glue gun and get stuff stuck down before the glue dries without burning yourself, then that is another option, but I’ve found the Scor-Tape to be a much more forgiving (and less painful) adhesive option for this project. I’ve also put this to the test over the last 3 weeks to make sure Scor-Tape would hold up for this type of use, and I’m very pleased with the results.
1. To begin, I used a short piece of 1/4″ Scor-Tape wrapped around each end of the 1/4″ headband. Add a short piece of ribbon over each end for a nice finished tip.
2. Run 1/4″ Scor-Tape along the entire inner and outer side of the 1/4″ headband. Make sure it is adhered well. Then peel off a couple of inches of the paper liner on both sides to expose the adhesive. Begin on the inside of the headband and then start wrapping the ribbon around the headband overlapping a bit on each round. Always heat-seal the end of the ribbon so it will not fray. You will likely use about 1-1/2 yards of ribbon to wrap the headband depending on how much you overlap the ribbon on each wrap. Just work off your entire length of ribbon and there will be no waste.
3. Keep exposing more of the adhesive as you go and keep neatly wrapping the ribbon around the headband until you get to the other end.
4. Once you get to the end, clip the ribbon so it will finish off on the inside of the headband. Heat seal the end of the ribbon and press it firmly into the Scor-Tape.
5. Now for the flower. I cut a one inch circle from heavy duty card stock and added a piece of 1-1/2″ Scor-Tape. Then take to rough edges of the Scor-Tape and just fold them into the circle. Neatness does not count because you will never see this. (If you don’t have wide Scor-Tape, just run several strips of whatever width you have across the circle.)
6. Take an 18″ piece of 5/8″ ribbon. Heat seal the ends and stitch a running stitch along the length of one edge.
7. Gather the stitches and put some tacking stitches in the end to hold it in place.
8. Adhere the gathered ribbon to the sticky circle beginning at the outer edge and working towards the center. If need be, add another small square of adhesive in the center to make sure the middle is secure.
And here you have your finished flower.
Adhere the flower to your headband and you’re all done. 🙂 For this part I would take out the hot glue gun or another adhesive like E-6000.
I also made a quick card using some ribbon from the July Ribbon Club Assortment, a simple sentiment from Quietfire Designs and a couple of Spellbinder dies. I also used my Scor-Buddy and one of my favorite little tools from Scor-Pal called a Scor-Bug. This fun little tool made those little dotted lined one the bottom of my card below.
You can see the scored lines and dots best on the photo below. I used my bone folder and Scor-Buddy to score lines framing out the top of the card and then I scored lines every half inch centered across the bottom and I used the Scor-Bug to score the dotted lines in between. You use the little tool the same way you used the bone folder and run it along the lines in your Scor-Buddy or Scor-Pal tool. What a fun effect with a minimum of effort.

WOW!! Love the headband!! how do you "heat seal" the ends of your ribbon?
Hi Tess,
You can heat seal the ends of ribbon by quickly running a lighter across the edge. This will quickly melt and seal the edges for any polyester ribbon so it will not fray. Be sure to NOT hold the flame in one place for long – you just want to heat it, not catch it on fire! 🙂
You could also use a product like fray-check if you have it on hand.
